I want to be immortal!

If I were immortal, I will surely piss off the insurance company from which I bought an annuity. Because they would have to keep on making monthly payments forever, which is a very long time by the way. Not that I have bought any annuity from anyone yet, and neither am I becoming an immortal anytime soon.

But the thought of how long can I expect to live did cross my mind recently with the talk of the increasing elderly population (officially that means 65 and above) in Singapore, and the buying of annuities becoming compulsory soon.

Have you ever thought about how long will you live to? I still remembered a friend who used to tell me he does not wish to live any longer than 45 (that was when we were both in our late teens), because he does not want to be old and rotting away. As for me, I rather like to live life slow and easy, savoring the life's moments.

Anyway, I decided to find out in a scientific way -- I googled for 'life expectancy calculator', and found a interesting and simple-to-use calculator. And here's my result:

Great, under current conditions, I can expect to live to a age of 88. Nice number I think. But I was still curious, what if I was female? So, I did another round, this time as a female. And here is the other result:

Oh my, I get to live for another 4 more years just by being a female! Haha..

I also found some figures from the Singapore Statistic Department that supported my findings: The life expectancy at age 65 for a male is 82.1 years old as at 2006. So, by the time I get to 65, the life expectancy should have risen.

Anyway, these are just numbers. The real point is to take care of yourself. You don't want to worn out your body and mind before their 'best-before' date, right? :-)

Toy Story -- Doraemon and Blue Piggy

You know what they say.. The difference between a man and a boy is the size of their toys. Well, looking at the size of the toy that I just bought, I can only say I'm a boy at heart :)

Doraemon is really cute and actually its more than meets the eyes, its a mini-fan in disguise!

And the blue piggy is of course a mini-torchlight (its those that you can generate power by pressing a lever on the side repeatedly).

I bought them because they cute, useful and cheap toys..

881 Movie Trailer and Music Video

'881' Movie Trailer. The video clip source is from a blog about the Director, Roytson Tan.

'881' Movie Title Track Music Video -- 一人一半 (Each One Half)

881.. Yo Ah Yo Ah..

I just watched Royston Tan's new movie '881' on last Sat. It's tacky, funny and sad. It's an unabashed hokkien musical set in Singapore. You get them actors breaking into a song and dance throughout the whole movie (machiam a Bollywood movie).

But I got to warn you, there are some parts of the movie which are really sad. The scene that really gets to me was the one when "Little Papaya" was in the hospital for the last time, and 'Auntie Lin' sang a tear-jerking hokkien song (and I realised lots of the hokkien songs in the movie are very sad).

When I was watching the movie, there was these two girls (strangers) seated beside me in the cinema, and I'm quite sure one of them were crying near the end and the other was handing tissue paper over to her. I also had to bit back tears at some points leh (how can a guy openly cry.. right..).

I really enjoyed the movie. Its worth the price of the ticket. Let's hope Royston Tan will continue to give us such poignant local favor movies for a long time to come.
